The letter that someone or a charity organization writes to potential investors and donors about their financial needs objectives and effectiveness of their work is known as the Grant Proposal Letter. There are basically three types of Grant Proposal applications or letters that you can write to organizations and corporations including a Letter of Inquiry, Letter Proposal, and Full Proposal. The Letter of Inquiry or LOI is a very simple type of proposal letter in which you introduce your company or organization and describe what your objectives are and for what purpose, you are working.

In the Letter proposal, you do the same by introducing yourself and your company along with the key goals and objectives but here you will also need to mention your financial needs and the money that you expect to get from the receiver of the letter. This is the basic difference between LOI and a Proposal letter in the LOI, you don’t mention any financial needs but you just attract the reader towards your goals and make him take an interest in your project. A full proposal letter is the most common type of letter. This is where you will describe and explain each and everything about your organization and for what purpose, you work. This kind of full proposal letter for a grant can be written anywhere between 5 pages to 30 pages depending on the situation.

Key elements of a common Grant Proposal:

  • Understanding the target audience of the proposal
  • Evaluating the key purpose of the proposal
  • Getting all the details about the purpose of the proposal
  • Selecting the suitable format for the application

Guidelines for writing a successful Grant Proposal:

  • The most important thing about a Grant Proposal letter is not how you present your needs and describe your goals and objectives to the reader; how you put this information in the letter is more important. The important thing is to start the letter by explaining the need for your work. For example, if you run a charity for homeless people, start the letter by describing how many homeless people are there in your city and what motivated you to start this charity for them. Once you grab the attention of the reader and help him focus on the problem, it is very easy to ask for financial help without much hard work.
  • Second thing of a successful Grant Proposal letter is the explanation of key goals and objectives that you state in the letter. Just by saying that you have observed a problem and you want to work for it won’t get you any financial help or attention from potential organizations but you also need to define what your goals and objectives are and what you want to achieve if you get the grant.
  • Another important part of a good Grant Proposal letter is the explanation of how you are planning to achieve your key goals and objectives. Just saying that if you have the money, you will solve a particular problem i.e. cancer awareness or a food kitchen for homeless people is not enough because organizations that have the potential to donate enormous amounts of money to such charities will want to hear about your planning and step by step work of your project.
