Most of us face the usual disorder problem at our house. To put things into order we try to come up with daily or monthly plans for things. But we forget to account for the fact that planning every single detail daily or preparing long-run plans usually do not help much. That’s why most planners recommend weekly chores to ensure implementation and better control over things. Weekly chores help you keep your house clean and stuff in order. It’s quite amazing to know that there is a very small but powerful secret behind it.

Divide it! So that each day you have a combination of big and small chores to keep it manageable and doable no matter how tired you are or how hard your day or work was. For new couples, it is relatively easy as compared to families with children. But again teaching these skills helps your child in the long run and is indeed a huge investment. It is worth mentioning, that if you are not doing chores well on time it will be difficult to persuade other family members to do the same. Dirt and disorder make cleaning more difficult.

Monday is the first day of the week so it is always a good idea to start with floors. Deeply wiping floors and vacuumed cleaning carpeted areas. This is of particular importance because if you have small kids or pets trailing dirt on a more frequent basis. As it is impossible to deep clean all rooms at the same time you might do that in turns. The cleaning for the spaces most frequently used should be done at least once a week by each family member, not to forget that pets are included. As pets can’t do that you would have to do that for them. Small chores include half an hour of pickup and recollecting misplaced things. Wiping smudges is also a consideration for the day.

Tuesday is laundry day. There should be a smart chart for managing the laundry from big items to small ones so that nothing is missed. This includes all pressing, ironing, and folding jobs. After a busy weekend, minor chores should include giving a quick cleaning job to the kitchen. The refrigerator should be checked for leftovers and other stuff that need to be removed.

Wednesday is mission day, a day to do all of your outdoor work like shopping, banking, posting letters, etc. Minor chores include cleaning the garage and driveway including the entryway.

Thursday: ideally your bathrooms should get a ‘quick service’ daily. Detailed cleaning is to be done today. If you have more than one bathroom then detailed cleaning should be done alternatively. With more family members the chore may be specifically delegated to the person(s) using the bathroom. The guest’s bathroom should be a priority every week.

Friday- as the weekend approaches we expect to have some nice food or maybe a party at the weakened at home. So kitchen it is! Usually, we clean the “mostly used” areas of the kitchen as we use them like doing the dishes and cleaning the stove or sink. Deep cleaning is not that troublesome in most of the cases. Families with children might find it more difficult to manage the kitchen with so much coming and going. Again teaching the children to be effective part of the chores is a long-term investment. Minor chores would ideally include dusting and scouting for possible out-of-the-way cleanings like pets or children’s mess.

Saturdays are more of a calm day with the exception that general repairs and maintenance that the house requires are to be done on this day.

Sunday is not a “holiday” like Saturdays are that’s because we need to prepare for the upcoming week. Cooking food for working days pressing your clothes putting things in order etc. you would not want to wake up on Monday with your shirt or tie missing or your lady purse missing its contents.
